Celebrating Spring

Seeing as how Easter's just a few steps away many of us are beginning to think about decorating eggs, celebrating Christ's resurrection, and setting up Easter egg hunts with our friends. Even people who aren't particularly religious often still celebrate religious occasions for example Christmas and Easter since these observances are a considerable component of our national culture. Regardless of whether you are Christian or not, Easter comes at a time when everyone has something to honor. Easter represents the beginning of spring. With the amazing 60 degree weather we have had recently in Colorado I can already smell Spring just a few days away and I am looking forward to welcoming once again the season of rebirth. If you are a family person you are likely planning fun crafts and activities for your kids as they look forward to the Easter Bunny's visit. The Easter Bunny is an case of how we've made a religious occasion into something that anyone can honor. So let me pose this question. Why do we commemorate Easter in any sense but its religious sense? The response… Spring tugs us out of our winter slump and drives us to fulfill resolutions we might have put aside. Even if New Year's resolutions are typically developed in January, it isn't until Spring that we often start to work on them. Warm weather, Spring growth, and sunshine are better motivators than snowstorms, frigid temperatures, and dreary days. In spring people begin eating lighter, spending more time out and about, working out more, and becoming more optimistic. All of these things bring up our spirits so why shouldn't we share our happiness with others around us? People living in cold climates generally struggle more with depression. Do you think this is a coincidence? As you start into your New Year's resolutions for the first time since announcing them back in January, why don't you share your good vibes with those you love? Easter is a good time to celebrate in the rebirth of new life. We celebrate by giving Easter baskets to our neighbors, family, and children as to say life's a gift, let's honor it! We observe the rebirth of nature and hopefully enjoy our natural surroundings a little bit more. We start planting and tend to our gardens and breathe in the beauty of the season. We use less heat and electricity as we get ourselves outdoors get the best out of the nice weather.

If you treasure these characteristics of spring to the extent that I do, why don't you share in your happiness with your friends and family? Deliver an Easter basket to a distant friend, a relative in another town, or your children. Put together a basket that encompasses one of the above mentioned topics. What about sending a basket full of healthy snacks or put your present in a "green" box?
